Window Air Conditioner
If you're looking for ways to keep your room cool, consider installing a window air conditioner. Of the many DX or direct expansion systems available, it is considered the cheapest and easiest to install and maintain.

On the other hand, if you plan to cool/heat multiple rooms or your house, installing a central ducted air conditioning system may be a better investment.

Installing a window air conditioner takes only a few hours, mostly drilling holes in the interior, or fitting it into an open window. You can also easily remove and store it at the end of summer. When you decide to move to a new place, you can easily pack it up and take it with you. This makes it highly recommended for rental or commercial occupants.

1. Measure Room Dimensions

Because window air conditioners vary in size and cooling capacity, you'll need to choose the right unit for your room. What you need to do is measure your room so you can assess the areas you want to heat or cool.

Other considerations include the size and heat transfer from the window to the outside and the number of people staying in the room. You'll also find a handy size calculator to help you with this.

2. Select a Window

The next thing you need to do is find out which windows you want to install your window air conditioner on. To do this, measure the width of the window and air conditioner to see if it will fit. Knowing the available space before buying a unit is crucial.

If your windows are too large, some units have an accordion-like panel to cover the extra space. However, you'll need to get a smaller unit or one that can be mounted through the wall.

3. Check your Windows

Many units are manufactured for different window types. When choosing windows to house your unit, it's important to keep safety a priority. If the window frame is found to be unstable, it needs to be repaired first. Once you've made sure everything is in place, you can move on to installing your device.

4. Install Window Air Conditioners

You need to carefully remove all parts from the box and follow the instructions to install the unit. Most window units require additional components such as accordion panels and flanges.

If your device comes with screws, you can use a screwdriver to put them where you need them. If you don't have screws, you'll need to buy them before you start installing your unit.

5. Place the Device on the Window

Since window air conditioners are heavy, you may need to get help with this step. You open the window in which to place the unit. If your unit includes sealing waterproof tape, we recommend that you can use it on windowsills.

With a helper, place the air conditioner on the bottom of the window frame. Have your assistant hold the device to hold it in place while you perform the next step.

6. Fix Windows and Set Angle Brackets

Carefully adjust the window frame until it is behind the top flange of the unit. You'll also want to make sure the bottom flange fits properly with the sill.

Your device comes with two sharp corner stands. These are important because they prevent your device from falling out from behind a window. Mount them by placing a bracket on each side under the unit.

7. Close Window Gaps

Seal the gaps you see in the upper and lower frames to complete the window air conditioner installation. You can use strips of insulating foam to do this (this is usually included in the package).

If not, you need to buy it. You only need to force the strip on the part of the window frame where the top and bottom meet. Finally, make sure it's snug before inserting it.
